The day

Hour by hour.

  1. 08:30

    Depart Sarajevo

Drive south-west onto the Bjelašnica plateau. The road becomes unpaved at around 1,200m.

  2. 10:30

    Arrive at Lukomir

Welcome into one of the stone houses with a coffee. Your guide introduces you to the village — its origins, its shepherds, the families who still summer here.

  3. 11:30

    Canyon rim hike

A gentle 90-minute walk along the rim of the Rakitnica canyon — 800 meters straight down, with nothing between you and it but careful footing and the wind.

  4. 13:30

    Lunch with a village family

Home-cooked meal on a terrace. Bosnian pita, cheese and kajmak, sometimes roast lamb. Whatever the family prepared that morning.

  5. 15:00

    Descend

Return drive to Sarajevo, arriving around 17:30.
